WHAT ARE PMP AND PRINCE2 CERTIFICATION?
What are PMP and Prince2 certifications post attempt to clarify the difference and similarity between the PMP and Prince2 Certification? There are various methods and certifications in project management, but the most well-known are undoubtedly PMP® and PRINCE2®. We get a lot of queries regarding the differences between the two certificates, so we decided to lay it all out for you by comparing the most significant aspects of both.
What exactly is a PMP certification?
Project Management Professional is an acronym for Project Management Professional. The most extensively used certificate in the United States, Australia, and Latin America is PMP. Within the project management domain, however, it is highly regarded. The PMBOK is the foundation for the PMP certification test.
The Project Management Institute (PMI) is the organisation that oversees the Project Management Professional (PMP)® certification (PMI). In October of 1984, the first PMP certificates got issued, and PMI estimates that by 2021, there will be over 1,000,000 certification holders worldwide. PMP certification is the preferred qualification for many project management occupations in the United States.
What does PRINCE2 stand for?
“PRojects IN Controlled Environments” is what PRINCE2 stands for. It was founded in 1989 by the British government’s Computer & Telecommunications Agency for Information Technology projects.
PRINCE, or Projects IN Controlled Environments, is a project management system based on processes. In 1989, a UK government assistance agency revised the PRINCE2 approach to meet corporate expectations. The most frequent PRINCE2 certificates are Foundation and Practitioner. The Foundation certification is necessary for the Practitioner certification. Axelos, a combined venture of a private corporation and a government organisation, oversees PRINCE2 certification. According to some figures, since 1996, almost 2 million PRINCE2 certificates have been given. The UK Office of Government Commerce (OGC) established PRINCE2 in 1996 and a registered trademark of Axelos. PRINCE2 6th Edition is the most recent version.
Project managers who want to further their careers by demonstrating their commitment to the field pursue internationally recognised certification. PMP and PRINCE2 are two of the industry’s most well-known and respected credentials.
The primary distinction is that, whereas PRINCE2 is a technique, PMP is a body of knowledge.
The PRINCE2 methodology can help you plan and execute your projects. It also includes templates that you can use or alter to your projects and organisation’s needs to assist you in reaching your objectives.
On the other hand, the PMP certification provides a structure and a corpus of project management expertise.
It can give you a variety of approaches and tools that you can use to meet your specific requirements.
The PMP certification verifies project management abilities and procedures, whereas the PRINCE2 certification verifies the competence to manage a project using the PRINCE2 approach in a controlled manner.
As an illustration, in PRINCE2, it is required to estimate the activities to construct a plan – it can use numerous strategies depending on the project, but PRINCE2 does not specify which techniques to use.
Instead, the PMBOK provides an overview and analysis of the available estimation approaches, allowing you to choose the one best fits your project.
Both certifications apply to a wide range of projects.
They’re both industry standards that can be tweaked or customised as needed.
Both are internationally recognised certificates that are valuable and renowned. PRINCE2 is more prevalent in Europe, while PMP is more popular in the United States. Participation in public bids may require both qualifications.
Both can improve and affect a professional’s CV and job path on a more personal level.
PRINCE2 is into two categories: Foundation and Practitioner.
The theoretical portion of the approach contains the Foundation level, which helps understand the process. This level has no qualifications; however, project management experience is desirable. The Foundation certification has no expiration date and is required to advance to the Practitioner level.
The Practitioner level allows students to learn how to put the method into practice. The Prince2 Certification cost varies from Country to country due to difference in Foreign exchange.Prince2 certification cost in Nigeria gives details of the cost.
The PMP is a single certification level with well-defined requirements. To take the Project Management Institute (PMI) test, you must have completed at least 35 hours of training and have project management work experience.
Individuals with a bachelor’s degree require a project management work experience of at least 4,500 hours during three years; for those with a high school diploma, project management work experience of at least 7,500 hours over five years is required.
