Exam Format for Earned Value Professional (EVP) Certification

Let us now discuss how to become a certified EVP. Let’s begin with the exam format. Since November 2012, the EVP exam has been administered using computer-based testing (CBT). The test consists of 120 questions and a memo. The exam lasts five hours and is a continuous examination. There are no breaks, nor can the timer be paused. Memos can also be written on the screen and keyboard using a simple text editor.

An overall passing score of 70% is required to become an EVP.

FAQ

FAQ

Earned Value Professional

Scrum has been proven to work well for small teams. But the true benefits of Agile can only be reaped if Agile and Scrum are scaled at the enterprise level.

Needless to say, the exam is extensive and requires thorough preparation. The following books and references are suggested:

1. AACE International’s EVP Exam Study Guide.

2. ANSI 748A or 748B Standard

3. The NDIA’s Intent Guide

4. The Project Management Institute’s A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide).

.

TARGET AUDIENCE

  • Those who intend to take the EVP exam and want to cut down on study time while also speeding up the learning process
  • Anyone who wants to learn the fundamentals of the Earned Value Management System.
  • Project managers, project controls personnel, engineering managers, construction managers, lead engineers, and other roles of a similar nature
  • Professionals in the ECPM industry and  those that want to advance their career in project controls, cost engineering, or contract administration, this certification is a must.

If you are already a Project Management Professional (PMP) or a Certified Cost Engineering Consultant (CCEC), the exam will be much easier for you. You must also carefully understand the ANSI 748A standard and master the terminologies explained in the standard. You can anticipate a number of questions based on it.

In general, the memo assesses your ability to analyze project performance data, calculate earned value indices and variances, and make project performance recommendations. One should not be concerned about memos. The memo will not be a difficult task if you understand the EVM concepts and have implemented them in real-life project scenarios.

In general, a two to three month preparation period with one to two hours of study per day is reasonable. However, once again, it is heavily dependent on your prior knowledge and experience with earned value management.
